      • The royal pleco is a pretty one! Don't forget to add that wood.

I was looking at plecos earlier today. You're making me want a new one now! Be sure to share pics when you get your royal!

        • Going to hide some wood in the back! (Thats what she said!)

Poor picture, but there he is. He's much less skittish than the gold nugget (though i've seen him more often, too). The Royal hangs out in the open.

          • I got mine at T&T in Sugarland, by the way. I've been impressed with their stock and store in general.

            • Poor picture? I can clearly see a beautiful pleco. tanks on the rebound it seems. Man im happy for you. Mine are just getting restarted, hopfully they'll be clean and clear like yours soon enough.

                • Hey Crude, good choice with the Stunners. I've been happy with my 8000k white strips since day one. Got them on 3 of my 4 running tanks, and probably will try the 10000k on the 230 gal.

                  • Good to hear! There still isn't a lot of info/feedback out on the net. I was hoping I'd be happy

I've seen a lot of tanks of similar size that look they have many more fish than what I'm currently stocking. Any feedback on my current stock?
10 Auratus (Really want to move 5 of these out...)
                    5 Acei
3 BB Zebras (Love these guys, wish I could find more locally)
2 Synos (don't know their species, but they look like the "upside down" variety... they just don't swim upside down )
1 Royal Pleco (He heard me writing about him and actually came out to say "hi" while I was writing this, haha).
1 Gold Nugget Pleco (Confirmed alive daily )

As a side note, I won't be posting anymore crappy iphone pictures... Finally made the plunge and bought a real camera! haha.

                    • Your stock sounds pretty light to me. A lot of what determines the load you can handle is not only the tank size, but the filtration and maintenance routine, as well as how well the fish get along with each other.

At last count, I have about 40 fish in my 90g Malawi tank, and I plan to add even more. Three are plecos, 7 are dwarf Synos, and 15 are yellow labs. The rest are mostly peacocks and haps, but I have a couple others mixed in. Your fish are more aggressive than mine so I'm not experienced with them, but from all I've read, it's best to overcrowd them to spread out the aggression. Look at most mbuna tank pictures and youtube videos, and those tanks are highly crowded.

So you just got the stuners for moon lights?

And not to really grow plants or corals right?
I ate my fish that died.

                        • Correct. Just the 24" blue on a 48" tank.

What specifically is the drawback to the stunners?
                            Sorry for late reply....work sucks.

To answer your qestion....it depends on what you are trying to do. Just light a tank? Maybe grade? Maybe upgrade to grow planted tanks or an all out reed tank. Here are some info on those three lights: stunners, maxspect, and AI.

                            1) Stunner: "Just like the 12 in. models, the longer Stunner strips can be daisy-chained allowing you run multiple Stunner strips from one power supply. Since the power draw is higher in longer strips, with the new 60-watt power supply you can link up to five 24 in. Stunner strips, three 36 in. and two 48 in. Pricing is $99 for the 24 in., $119 for the 36 in. and $139 for the 48 in. Stunners. You can also focus more light down into the tank by adding clip-on reflectors." by reefbuilders.

This version is one of the newest to come out. I have to admit its a decent unit for the price. But some other older versions sucked....I also don't believe in LEDs that don't have a good size heat sink. I had an older version over my nano reef for a while and if was disappointing. Pro: cheap; Con: ugly; less par.

                            2) Maxspect (My personal favorite, personal bias): "The G3 Maxspect will be the third generation light fixture from the company which brought the aquarium hobby the first individually replaceable LEDs and the first fixture to also house multichip LEDs. The G3 Maxspect is very similar to the G2 but it features a redesigned housing with less plastic, and more polish and new dimming functions on top of the digital timer found on the G2 and G1 Maxspect units. Now before all the new G2 Maxspect owners start getting all up in a tizzy, the G3 will not be available until December at the earliest and it will basically be a fully loaded G2 fixture with all the reflector and lensing options coming standard. The only real difference between the G2 and G3 Maxspect will be the full dimming controls for each channel of LEDs, and the timer and dimmer controller being placed on one of the fixture instead of the driver." by reef builders.

I've had the 120w G2 over my ADA60p for coming on two years now. Corals still doing good. When services was need, a 300 dollar part was replace for free. I really like these lights. You can change the LED and you can customize the type of light you want. So if you wanted to update to do planted tanks or reef this is the light for you.

AI: "AquaIllumination is showing a brand new LED light which is codenamed “Phoenix”. If the first AI Nano LED was half of an AI Sol, then the new AI Sol “Phoenix” is now a double-stack of AI Nano LEDs. The new AI LED light is thinner than the old Sol, it uses the same Cree XM-L and dual blue color LED cluster as the AI Nano and it is wirelessly controlled. AI’s newest LED light will be controlled by a separate black-box controller which will have a web interface, and it will be able to control up to 30, individually addressable wireless AI LED lights." by reef builders.

Big boy on the block. Only guys that have money growing on trees get this stuff. I have no experience with them expect for a test run and to shot some pictures. There is basically no bad reviews on consumer service.

Don't know if any of that helped, it appears you don't have p;ans to upgrade so you dont need these high end type lights. :)
I ate my fish that died.
