You can fine some wet/dry w/ pump on all for around 100 bucks on here. Trust me, you will be very impress with how much fish you can keep in a closed system if you have a wet/dry running. Massive filtration power and oxygenation. And very easy to maintain it as well.

Crude, myjohnson is right on the money. I never run air stones in my tanks anymore and my fish never gulp heavily.

I thought that wet/dry was complicated just like you do until I got one. I now have one in each of my tanks. I also run a canister for mechanical filtration. Tanks are crystal clear and fish are happily going about their lives.

I guess I'll be measuring the dimensions of the under-stand space....

Would it be ridiculous to use the canister as my return pump? Err, nevermind... I'd still be limiting my flowrate. If anyone can point me towards an appropriately sized wet/dry and/or pump, I'd appreciate it How do I handle equipment (pump) failures, power outages, etc?

What about an FX5? The stand I have has doors on the sides instead of the front, so access is limited for a wet/dry.

FX5 is an excellent filter for the price. I have one on my 90 with a wet/dry but you should be fine running just it by itself. Point the nozzles upward to help aerate the water.

Can you tell me the diameter on the fx5? Amazon lists it with dimensions too big to fit in my stand, but hopefully that's for the box it comes in.

Also, anyone know where I can get some demasonis locally? Seems like aquabid is my best option.

The main thing is what do you have room for and what can you maintain effectively. But I can now say that I am going to be going the route of a wet/dry and an eheim 2217 on my 50 gallon. I know it's been said but if you can filter 8-10 times the volume of the aquarium an hour the better off it will be. In the very least 5 times. my 150 is filtered by 2 2260, so by my own rule i'm under filtered. However when I upgrade the pumps I will effectively be filtering 10 times the volume of the aquarium maybe a little more. However if I like the way the wet/dry functions on my 50 I will probably install one onto to my 150 the achieve at least 15 time the filtration an hour.

More filtration+better quality water = Happy fish and owner

17"H x 16"W is what I was able to find on the net. Seems and sounds about right. That Dimension will also be at the widest point, probably closer to the top of the filter around the top cap and motor.

Hmmm, so I'm going to measure again, but I'm pretty sure that wont fit under my stand (as mentioned only access is from the side).

Are there any higher powered canisters (more than the 405 I have..) that would fit in a 12" gap? I know my current fluval is rectangular, so it slips in easily in its shorter dimension.
