I posted these in a thread I started in the Fish Basics forum, but I'm happy enough about them I thought I'd post them here (this is a journal, kinda, right?)
Wee! I didn't get good ones of all the fish I wanted to. I'm not good enough to get the focus right consistently, so I had to throw a lot out of some of my other favorite fish. I did get a shot of the demonsi and a red zebra though The RZ shot is my fave by far.
Very nice pics! i know what you mean by having to throw out pics. I think my fish view my camera as a monster with one huge eye, and anytime I point it at them, they go running!
I'm going to have to get a camera with a really good zoom so I can take pictures of the fish without having to scare them so much. Your pics are looking really good. Are you using a zoom? How far away are you from the tank when you take your pics?
Im using a Canon S95, and I honestly have no idea how good its zoom is. I'm not using it, though. Those pics were taken with the camera right up to the glass My fish dont usually run away when I approach, instead, they flood the lens so its difficult for me to single out any one fish. I had plenty of great shots, in perfect focus on the subject, but someone else decided to get in the way
Hmm.. maybe I should put the camera up to the glass? I'm sitting back about a foot, and the fish definitely know when I point the camera directly at them. It makes them uncomfortable so they move away. I was looking at a camera with a 35x zoom that would let me take pictures from my couch! Now that might work! Only problem is that I've spent too much money lately so the last thing I need to do is plop down another half grand on yet another aquarium related anything.
Congrats on your stunner strip. I'm sure it'll be stunning when you get it! Argh!
NICE PICTURES!!! Throw like third of a cup to half cup of charcoal in ur filter and itll buff that water clear. Its nice seeing your normal cichlids and not trophes for a change. I was feeling lonely.

Thanks
I just recently took the carbon out of my filters, and replaced with Purigen. The cloudiness in the water increased about this time, too. I'll try adding some carbon back. Thanks!
Thank you!
I haven't noticed any spawning behavior at all. Most, I think, would still be considered juvies. As far as the Auratus go, I'm not even sure I got a male out of the group of 10 I have.
As of now, I don't even have a second tank to hold potential fry, but if I see any red and blue striped yellow fish, I'll know
I really love the pics, poop and all! How's the aggression level going? You have a lot of really pretty fish. I love the diversity of the different fish!
