  • How deep is your sand?

I'm replacing my old sand, and I think I had it too deep last time. How deep do you guys have your sand?

I keep mine around one inch.
    Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

With my cichlids it varies from 5" - glass. They and the giraffe nose like to excavate.

2-5". Its the fine argonite. It was fairly even, but all the flow and my fervent diggers have changed that.

I'm with Tim, I keep a very thin layer about 1".

I just hate having gas build up on ticker layers.

I wish you would tell my fish that's what I'm trying to prevent, they don't get it.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going with a 1 to 1.5" depth this time. I definitely had too much last time which is one reason my rock scaping got swallowed up.

I only use enough to cover the bottom. 1" at the most. Spots usually end up bare from filter flow, but I'd rather see some bare spots than have gas build-up
