  • I'm not sure what to do?

I've got a peacock that I believe is carrying a brood of babies around in her mouth. She's had this funny look about her for a few days, I just put it togehter that maybe she is "holding" babies in her mouth.

In her current environment is will mostly not feel to comfortable about letting them go. What should I do about this perdicament.

When the fry are too big and she is starving badly enough, she will spit regardless.

She can hold anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks.  You can catch her and isolate in a small tank for a few weeks or try waiting to the last possible minute and strip her of her fry and put them in a small grow out tank.

We are going to do a 50% water change on our sick tank, and go out to eat, and then come back and hopefully, gently, scoop up momma peacock and put her into isolation.

      Thanks

Now we have noticed another female in the same condition, both appear to have babies in their mouths. The bottom's of their throats are bulging out and their entire head and gill area looks bigger.

Is is possible to put the two females together in this case?

I am pretty sure they are both peacocks, but also fairly sure they are of different variety.

Again, not too sure how to deal with two females holding?

This is where a tank divider comes in handy if you don't have another tank.  Another way to go is a fry basket that sits in the tank.  You can buy these at any fish store.  If you get one large enough, you have have one female in the basket till she spits while the other female is in the tank.  That way the fry are seperated.

Hey CF be aware that peacocks usually have brood of 30-50 fry at a time,so make sure youve got enough space for them and like Raul said a tank divider would really come in handy. You could make your own out of
window screen material with metal edges to hold sides,or I think somebody was selling them recently on the box try to find out who and if they still have them

Wait until those mommas get a little more size on them and watch the numbers that they spit.  And just to let you know....once they breed for ya once, plan on it happening many more times to come as long as you keep up with your water changes and maintenance.  That's why you guys have some of my mystery fry.  I couldn't get my trio of morally loose females to stop....LOL!!!
