  • Need help.. have eggs and not sure what next

    Hello,

I am new to this and have just noticed my Jewel Cichlid has laid eggs. They are on the bottom of the aquarium in the back corner. The parents are guarding them feverishly.

I am new to this and this is my first experience with eggs and am unsure what I need to do... Do I leave them be, or do I need to remove them? If I need to remove them, what exactly do I need to do?

    Help!!

You can leave them, most jewels I've seen are really good parents.

What other fish do you have with them?

Hmmm with that kind of line up....

Did they lay the eggs on something removable?
If so, set up a little tank or floating nursery and move the eggs and parents over. Think just the male tends to the young at this point but I could be wrong.

The eggs are on the bottom of thr tank on the gravel. Mom and Dad are guarding them with their lives and running anyone off that comes near. I hate the thought of them getting eaten buy the others. so I may have to move them out.

Well in that case leave them and watch over them carefully, in the mean time set up a nursing tank. When the eggs hactch just run some small tubing and siphon them over.

              Thanks

Thank you the advice. I have set up a nursery tank for my new Jewel's (to be) I am anxious to see if I can manage to keep them all alive. If I do, you may just see a post from me offering them up for new homes! LOL
