  • tropheus tank filtration

I have a wet dry filter on my 180 and it has 2 overflows on each side of the tank with 2 output pipes should I have the output pipes facing straight at each other or downwards like pointing at the sand. Currently I have it pointed downwards if I were to have it straight (it is a pvc elbow) should I just cut it use a coupling and that would make it straight? Or does it not matter? Also about filtration I have a wet dry with bio balls that is rated for a 200 gallon tank plus a little giant pump that I believe pumps 1700 gph or 1600gph should I also add an fx5 and should I also add one of the wave makers powerhead things? Is one sufficient or should I have one on each side. Also I plan on having a colony of 25-35 trophs. Thanks.

I would try and have the outputs pointed at the surface somewhat to help outgas the tank. Use the canister if you add one to circulate the tank along with any powerheads you intend to add.

Personally I would add them all and then increase your colony size a bit but that's just my 0.02 worth

You want two fx5/2260/2262 and two mp40ws!

But good start so far! :)

Wet/dry, 2 eheims 2260/2262 and for circulation one koralia7/8 and maybe an mp40 for the battery backup option or if you don't worry about that just an extra koralia 1400. I love my vortecha but they are not necessary for fresh water IMHO and honestly my k8 push more water than my mp60 without all the noise.

Honestly....all that's needed is the wet/dry. The canisters are already over doing it.

The wet/dry is enough like Thai said. Canisters will help with mechanical.

Have you checked your water level at the pump input to make sure it is not drawing air from there/

I don't know maybe it wasn't sealed correctly. It doesn't really hurt does it? The Only Problem I have would be that It would kick up the sand and blow it everywhere. Is a powerhead/wavemaker necessary? If I were to get a used fx5 for like 125-150 that would be like getting one koralia 8 or 1/4 of a mp40w
