Enough that the tank is crystal clear water. Nitrates are going to be there no matter what and the only thing that can get nitrate to a suitable level is water changes. There's no need for 2 Eheim 2262s and a wet/dry that is rated for a 300g. But by all means if money grows on trees for you and you like over doing stuff, more power to you.

What about oxygenation, o2 levels, circulation, adequate flow to turn over the water to come into contact with the water surface to expel co2, stocking levels that vary from tank to tank, metabolism brought on by surges of water movement, the ammonia/nitrites that are present before we are able to test it or between test(filter turnover rate would have this come into contact more ofter and faster with filtration), the split of beneficial bacteria estate amongst multiple filters instead of putting all your eggs in one basket....etc.
and to correct your statement, there are means of nitrAte removal outside of water changes.... guess what it would be considered as... FILTRATION!700g Mini-Monster tank
