That sounds about right when you consider the UV filter's selling points.

I like storm troopers in my tank to fight the ninjas.

Seriously though, I have crystal clear water and no parasites without a big UV. Yeah, every now and then something pops up but meds are cheaper to fix that issue. UV is another piece of equipment to add to the clutter.

Hmm... what about all the pathogens and bacteria that are present in the aquarium that are just waiting to find a weak enough host to flourish and take over? wouldn't prevention be the better solution to better provide for our beloved pets? Especially with the vegetarian specific species which have long digestive tracts where all this bad stuff resides just waiting for the moment of a take over.

I would think preventing a could be problem would be much less harmful and more positive approach when it comes to our pets we love so dearly since a single infected pet could expand and infect the rest of the tank since they are housed in small glass cages, forced to share each others feces water.

Also using tap water could also be introducing more pathogens that we as normal humans can not account for unless one has access to a lab or even when moving fish from one tank to another could be just as harmful. Where one tank has had fish that have built an immunity to present pathogens our lovely pets in our home may not have ever been exposed to it and could fall victim possibly destroying a whole community.

Please don't give up and keep your opinions to yourself when it could possibly keep a fellow hobbyist from wasting money. enlighten us as to your reasons why a UV is no use to our aquariums. We are here to better help one another and share our experiences as a whole to better the husbandry and greater our horizons in the hobby. There's little use to a forum if we are just gonna keep to ourselves and just post pictures all day.

Nicely said Ek, iv had a really good experience with then and did notice a difference in both the quality of my water and in algae control as well. We as people like clean fresh air why not give our animals the same, some of us spend a nice penny on these fish we keep.

I as a fellow hobbyist am open ears to your opinion.

So far you have only stated that it "is no use in an aquarium", you have "crystal clear waters without" and that "meds after a fish has fell victim to disease is a cheaper option".

It's all about levels of comfort isn't it Donovan? Yours is with UV, and mine without.

Levels of the comfort as a hobbyist or levels of comfort of our beloved pets?

Well if wana go on the comfort side then Yes. If u can prevent something bad and a possibility that a fish may get sick and theres something in which keeps their living conditions less succeptable to a bad thing, then yea im all for it. The uv likght came out and i did my reading and homework and iv personally seen results. Why wait till ur fish is sick then treat all the fish in the tank as sick, when u can better prevent them from getting sick in the first place.
