Just happens to only be on one face of the rock. It could easily be rotated...

Well, believe it or not, there's a good reason for it. As I stated above, I removed my existing substrate to help eliminate these Malaysian Trumpet Snails. Once they're gone (or under control), then I do plan on replacing the substrate again.

If you like my CAK so much, how about you buy it for one of your tanks Loretta? Been in the Fish Market for some time now

That's right, I had forgotten about your snail troubles......well, the bare bottom may not be that attractive, but it does make cleaning the bottom a piece of cake....

            Very true Steve!

I went ahead and decided to start dosing Snail-A-Way a few days ago. I drained the tank, and flushed the wet dry, getting out all the snails I could see. Every couple of days or so I'll find a few stragglers on the glass or in the corners, so I just siphon them out into a 5 gallon bucket.  I'm also beginning to find white, empty baby MTS shells now.

Did you boil your bio balls when you flushed your W/D? .... I hear those snails are almost impossisble to get rid of...

I have not boiled them yet. Right now I'm on a strict dosing/water change schedule every 2-3 days for now, so we'll see what that does. If this won't take care of them, then I'll just hold off boiling the bio balls (or just straight up replacing them) when I upgrade tanks/filtration within the near future.

I suppose it basically wipes out the BB when you do remove the bio balls for a thurough cleaning of them.....I wonder what the proper cleaning procedure would be....?   I mean, how long do you use the w/d without some sort of maintenance?

All I do is remove and clean out the prepump filter/sponge now and then..???

Well before I ran into this problem, I hardly ever siphoned the detritus out. Maybe like once a month, if that. I tend to over-do things. Sponges, usually every other water change. I suppose the proper cleaning procedure for the bio balls would be (if your trying to keep the biological bacteria alive) to take them out and rinse them in existing aquarium water. Otherwise, it would all be lost.

True....and I keep forgetting about the slim build up in the hose.....although, I'm reminded of it, every time I do a water change.
