How Many Shells for Multis

Hey Guys & Gals,

I'm looking at escargot shells on amazon and I'm wondering how big of a box do I need. Looks like they have from 12 to 24 to 36. I'm betting 12 is too few so which is it, 24 or 36?

They are colony type breeding fish and will inhabit a whole shell bed if provided.

I was reading on here, I think, that someone had pulled some of their shells out of the tank and they smelled bad. So I'm assuming they can get anerobic?? Do you pull them out and move them around sometimes in order to keep out stinkies? Wouldn't that really upset the fish?

Tey sell bags at specs. I had to have them ordered , but you get 36 for 10.00
Its a good deal. An as far as how many shells depends on how many multies you actually have. Ill pm u about getting the lil guys!

I think what you read was due to the type of shell used.

my old 20g Long... there were hundreds of multis when I tore the tank down.

Wow, what a cool tank. I found the post and you had said it was gas pockets because of the type of shell.

i recently replaced my sea shells with whale eyes. i pulled the sea shells out and man did they stink. i recently pulled the whale eyes out and theyre fine. EK was saying because of the way its spiral it contains gas pockets in it. so i suggest getting something less spiral like shells

The more shells you have, the more cool behaviors you get to see. You can watch them bury shells and move 'em around to their liking and such.
