My New 125 Gallon Frontosa Tank Setup Thread-Updated Pictures!

I am in the process of fixing up a 125 gallon for some Mikula Frontosas and other Tangs. I thought you might want to see some pictures of the process. I still have to finish the doors and the canopy and buy some more sand and a new canister filter for it but it is coming along nicely I think. :)

Any tips will be appreciated.

This is the first time I have tried this so let me know if it doesn't work.

Hmm. Good question. I'm hoping to find one skinny enough to fit through the front doors. I used to have one that would so I'm hoping I can find that again. Any ideas? I want a filter that will do a good job. I was planning on an fx5 but it may not fit through the front.

if i were you id turn the stand and the other way. the back facing the front and make a door fit that.. cut a 2x4 and have a support for the middle of the tank then you can fit any fiters

EDIT: NVM looked at pictures again and saw that front and back look the same... i would just chop the 2 piece of wood and jut put 1 2x4 to support the middle

Good start. I think the hardscape needs some tweaking but that's just my $.02. I really like the stain color on the stand. If you add an Eheim 2217 it will fit under there.

Mark: I have a 4 1/2 foot piece of driftwood I was planning to put in there and I bought some purigen to keep the water from turning brown. I also bought some escargot shells for the Calvus that haven't been put in there. I was planning to put a few sprigs of greenery on both sides. What else would you suggest? More rocks? I know it's hard to see without the light over it yet. Also, do you think a 2217 would be enough for my tank along with the wet/dry?

Yeah that's my little bro. I got him to come help me instead of watching spongebob all day! it only lasted about 5 mins though. So much for help huh?

But to me I think the 2217 and a Wet n dry should be enough just keep the hob filter on just for extra where are u getting ur fronts from ?

Don't knock HOB filters just yet, as they work well when set up correctly. You could use two AquaClear 110s on that tank and have pristine water, used along with the wet dry.

The driftwood sounds good. I'd add some taller rocks, too. Go back through some of the other front threads if you're interested and see how some of them have arranged their tanks. Like I said, it's just my opinion... that and $5.00 will get you a cup of coffee.

If it were me, I'd let the wet/dry act as mech and bio filter and let the 2217 just act as bio filter. You can do that by putting a sponge over the intake to keep out debris. I'm a fan of clean water and multiple filters... you never know when one filter will fail.
On the purigen... I never used it. Water changes will remove tannins. Eventually your driftwood will stop releasing them.

Def not knocking hob filters. I have an emperor 400 on my 75 gallon that has done a good job for years. :) I just want a better one than The whisper that came with my tank. I like that the whisper is so quiet though! My emperor is SO loud!!
