  • Help: petrochromis trewavasae vs. Tropheus sp. Bulu

I've never kept petrochromis trewavasae before. I'm just doing some research. I just got rid of all my nano tanks save one, and got a hold of a 80 gallon, 48 inch tank. Could I keep a small group in this tank? If so how small?
Alternatively, I thought of keeping some Tropheus "cherry spots" sp. Bulu, but I've never kept tropheus in under a 120 gallon except for fry. I really can't go bigger with my tank for now. I'm consolidating my efforts into a single tank since I've got less time with my new job, a 1 year old, and another child on the way. I originaly set up the tank hoping to get S. pindu (lost cause) vs. keeping a breeding group of Betta macrostoma (but I'm kind of betta's out after 4 years of focusing on them). My wife wants me to get a pair of Paratilapia bleekeri, but every time I've had a group of these in tanks under 200 gallons I'm left with only one huge psychotic fish at the end of 2 years. I need advice!

You can start with fry/juvis and you could grow out a group of them, if you are concerned about tropheus in that small of a tank then petros should be a hell no.

I would go with the Bleekeri, they look nice and not everyone has them.

with all your options I think the ones you and your wife wants might not be ideal while the ones you are tired of are probably the better choices.

        Probably, true.
I've never kept petros before. I really like black/dark colored fish.
