Foods for baby fronts

I'm picking up some baby frontosa (about 1") and I'm not sure exactly what to feed them. Right now, my plan is to feed them Ken's Tropheus Lovers flakes and Tetra Microcrabs (cyclopeeze pellets).

Does this sound right? What about mixing Repashy's Soilent Green with their Meat Pie? Might be pricey but I could feed small cubes to them and let them graze.

HAW is close to my work so I'll probably buy my food there. John's got a great selection of both the Ken's and Repashy right now. Thats why I'm focused on these two brands.

I have NLS thera A and NLS grow I could be feeding too if I should try that.

Why not ask Mike and Ron what they feed theirs for optimal growth? I know that they aren't picky, and what you mentioned sounds fine.

Find out what the breeder is feeding them. If u chose to feed something different
then switch them over slowly by blending the breeders food and ur. Good luck Thera A .05mm and crushed flake . I crush the flake and sumurse In the tank before releasing.

Nls flake should just fine for them. And when they reach the 2' range some frozen brine will be nice treats. The more varieties u can get the to eat the better. They are natural fish eaters so meaty foods are fine.

If I had the cash I would have bought some fry from you Mike but I managed to work out a trade with someone. It helped that they were a wee bit closer too, lol.

Only use sinking foods ,I try to submerse all food , even sinking pellets float around sometimes .{I feed Tera A 1mm and 2mm}

I have Thera A 1mm. Is that too big for fronts the size of a quarter?

The sinking foods prevent float, right? Would I be better off feeding Ken's Tropheus Lovers Flakes or Ken's Spirulina Wafers? The tropheus lovers flakes have more spirulina than the spirulina flakes so thats why I'm thinking of using those. The wafers would sit on the bottom and let them graze on it.

I have raised several variants of Fronts over the years . All were F1 and raised from 1" fry to roughly 10 " . I started all mine off with NLS Grow Thera A . I have fed them all kinds of food but. There was something about that NLS Thera +A that made them go "ape sh*t" over it . They would eat this more aggressively than anything else .

Btw......since you said they are about the size of a quarter ..... I would probably start with the NLS Grow (.5mm) size for little while . Even though they will definitely accept the 1mm. ......I would still start with the .5mm just to be on the safe side. I wouldn't waste money buying the big size jar though . Fronts grow "crazy" fast in the first year and will outgrow the .5mm pellets in about a months time .

I have 4 3" fronts right now in a separate tank. Can I reasonably expect these guys to catch up to join them at one point or will that be a long time from now?

Feed them well, with frequent large volume WC & good filtration they should grow fast.

They will catch up in about a year . With frequent water changes.....Fronts grow really fast ......but after the first year....their growth starts to slow down .

Yeah Burundi. We were supposed to meet today for the trade but I haven't heard back from him yet so idk. If this deal ends up not going through, my other option is buy a few more 3" ones but I really don't have much play money nowadays since we had our third kid. Kid #2 is still in diapers too so thats not helping. That's why I'm trying to trade stuff. Oh well, I'm not in a huge rush right now anyway.

How many is a good number for a reasonable colony? I've got 4... how many more would I need to have a proper group?

I got 16 from Mike back in April...I will eventually weed out the males soon...I've heard 15-20 is a good start to ensure you get enough females to breed...
