  • pool sand

I decided to go with it.. so I threw one of my cichlid in there for the 1st time. And after a while it laid down on its side. Never seen that behavior.
Is it because its 1st time in the sand?

    Any help would be appreciated

I doubt very seriously that the sand caused this issue. As stated above.....more info is needed .

Did you run straight from the tap? Did you add dechlorinator? Where was this fish prior to being added to the tank?

30 minutes old? Did you dechlorinate the water? What are your water parameters? I would suggest reading over the aquarium Nitrate cycle (many websites detail it) and try and get your fish into some bottled water. Parameters, how long the tank has been running, Is it cycled, Filtration, Tank size, Fish specifics would all assist us in helping you.

Did you pull filters from the old tank or did you put new ones? I would think the fish is reacting more to the water and less to the sand.

Is the temperature in the two tanks the same?

How did you put the fish in the tank?

Did you just scoop it from one tank to another? Or did you slowly acclimate it?

These questions slipped my mind but answering them will help us figure out what's the problem.

That could be it. Try swapping the filters. Put the old ones on the new tank
