My large male Venustus has blood leaking into his fins and his spine and tail are very red like blood is coming to the surface. What could be wrong with him.

Sounds like it could be a major infection, possibly septicemia. I'd put him in a hosp. tank and treat with both gram negative and gram positive antibiotics.Originally posted by Kikki View Post

Melafix and pimafix are not antibiotics. Hopefully they'll do something to ease the condition. Back in the day I used Maracyn and Maracyn II but I think Mardel has a single med that has antibiotics that hit gram neg and pos in one dose. Hopefully someone who's had to use this recently will chime in. I haven't had to treat a tank with antibiotics in a couple decades.

It sounds internal as Mark said. It could be a variety of things, but certainly sounds like an infection that is spreading. Is there a chance it could have had some physical trauma like hitting the tank after getting spooked or maybe the lid? I think that might be your best hope. Is there any signs of something like that? Lost scales or scratches anywhere?In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Hmmm, that sounds like more of an infection like Mark suggested. Just hoped it might be physical trauma as that would be easier to fix. I would dose antibiotics and hopefully everything comes out okIn the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I know with goldfish blood in the fins indicates poor water quality. Have you checked the tank water?Guppies:

We did a 50% water change yesterday like we do every Tuesday. He is the only fish out of the 150gallon tank that is sick. He is to the point where he is unable to keep himself upright. hmm not sure if Metrodiazole will help u in this case but you can try using some of that. I usually soak my fish food in liquidize form of metro and feed it to my fish for a more effectiveness. good luck on your cure bro. man that doesn't sounds too good :/Comment

hemorrhagic septicemia- by the time you can see it, it's usually too late to treat. i'd be careful adding new fish to the tank for a while. this can be caused by a number of different bacteria, and it can be contagious.my fish house:
2.5g- ramshorn hatchery
6g eclipse- yellow shrimp, chili rasboras, yellow apple snails
29g- geo grow-out, angels, 12"fire eel, dwarf frog, apple snails
45g- jade sleeper gobies, native killifish, feeder endlers
75g- 2 oscars, parrot, silver dollars, albino channel cat, syno euptera, bichir, baby jaguar, convicts, yabby
125g- fahaka puffer, rainbow shark
