How soon can you strip the female of the eggs and tumble? I want to build my colony and don't wanna take the chance of letting the female hold full term. She's still small and young and I have my doubts.

What type of fish? I think letting her hold as long as possible would be best. Has this female held eggs yet or are you planning for her first?Don't tell fish stories where people know you; but particularly, don't tell them where they know the fish.

My canary cheek tropheus. I have had two breedings but since my colony is female heavy, Im not sure if this particular female has held before. I want to build my colony and don't want to miss out on getting some fry.210gPetrochromis Macrognatus Green 'Nsumbu

Here's a theory I have running in my head. I think they instinctively know to hold but it might take a few trial runs for them to get it right. This might depend on the individual female where some take to it from the get go and some don't, the fish's comfort level in the tank especially during water changes, and whether all the eggs were successfully fertilized. I think sometimes the mating fish don't get the fertilizing process right which result in the unfertilized eggs going bad after some time which might prompt the female to spit everything out. I thought of this while watching my juvie Petro Longolas spawning where they looked like dumb and dumber bouncing around from rock to rock and I not going into a structured spawning routine. Again, just a few theories I have after observing my fish.
