  • Adding Salt to my tanks need some advice please

Ok we have decided to start adding salt to our African and South American tanks. Is there a specific brand ya'll would recommend and how much should we add per gallon of water? I have found 4 different measurements googling it. All help and advice is welcomed

I use epsom salt in my African tanks. 1 cup per 100 gallons. Cheapest brand you can find will work.

This is going to start a debate. THIS ONLY WHAT WORKS FOR ME.

I use Aquarium Phamaceutical salt. IMO, this salt is effective for scraps, abrasions, ect....and general health.
I also on occasion Epson salt. This I believe is helpful with digestive issues, and will help with FLOAT.
As far as how much to use, Epson salt I use one cup per 100 gal. I only use any type of salt when needed.

Mike, salt is salt but magnesium sulfate (epsom salt) is not really salt. I was trained that salt is a must in freshwater aquaria. I do not use it anymore. The debate goes on.

Epsom salt is a great medication.

Salt isn't necessary for freshwater tanks. It is a good med for ich and at the correct solution will help to offset brown blood syndrome from nitrite poisoning. If you feel you absolutely need to keep salt in your tank(s) don't waste money on "aquarium" salt. Rock salt is the same and about 1/10th the cost.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.
