Personally, the main upside to getting WC fish is you know most came from the same area of the lake. You also get natural levels of variation.

With f1/f2 you will be getting less natural levels of variation within a group. Also, you could be getting mix fish. I've seen it happen.

I advise you to go look at a few tropheus groups in real life. Variation in single fish and/colony is not captured in a photo.

Lol, honestly if you hit the 2-3 main houses in h-town you can see maybe 10-15 colonies depending on which hoarder steps up.

Yeah, but they tend to be reclusive for the most part.

You're welcome to check out my tanks if you're ever down this way

yeah come to find out that one of my very close friends from the military is into fish and he has a 90 gal tank with what looked like trophs duboisi which looked really good but he only had like 15 but I saw what you all are saying about the variants because none of his looked anything like the pictures that I have seen. But I do think I'm ready to take the plunge

                        Thats great news.
Whenever your ready, just ask a few folks (if they have not already told you to visit them) if you can swing by and look at their colonies of variants they have and get their pricing and your good to go.
Just FYI, bring beer. A typical trip for me when I tell the Warden im stopping by to see a hobbyist trophs or petros, it means I spend atleast an hour there.
But... maybe that is just me.
Good luck and welcome to the Troph Hobby.
(soon you will get rid of the little tank and go bigger and add much more different variants. rinse repeat)

And if you want to go with fry, Myjohnson seems to be always selling fry. There are also other members on here constantly wanting to change out species or are selling off fry. Watch the Market section of the forum.
