They are very cool. I had some a few years back and mine were very active. I later introduced some additional ones without quarantining them....mistake. They got sick on me......parasites I think.......got skinny and stopped eating........then no more. I saw a rare python eel on aquabid for $100. It's called a Mastacembelus cf. circimcintus.
Here's a vid of my leopard eels from Lake T. You will also notice that my wc black moba momma is holding a mouthful of eggs. My wc mobas didn't seem to even be bothered by the eels and mine did not burrow.
Here's a few pics:
Mine loved Hikari frozen krill and mysis. Be sure to cover all your openings as well because they are known to crawl out. I covered all my smallest openings with old credit cards. I cut them to fit the openings.
Very nice eels. Maybe one day I'll get some more.180g Oceanic w/colony of 8 WC Moba Fronts (1m/7f) purchased from TNT Cichlids in Jan '05 & numerous fry. 1 F1 adult moba male. 2 2217 Eheims, 2 6080 Tunze Streams, WISA airpump, single stage Johnson ETC.....fishkeeping since 1988.

Snagged a few pics of the eels for you guys. They have been a lil shy when i try and photo them. But they are awesome i love them. Very active and actually chase off some of my fish when they get thier tails bitten during feeding.
Fred and Tank are happy Eels ! The gf gave them names. Lol.....so Fred is the more skiddish of the two. He comes out and roams around now n then. But Tank , hes the bad boy. Definitely thinker and more aggressive he paces the tank and nips my fronts now n then. They are fun to watch eat pellets very fond of the red tetra granules. Well hope u guys like the new pics. Ill get more as i see the good opportunity.5 gal baby hecqui grow out

Ok so Fred and Tank are looking awesome. So things iv noted is that color seems to be lighter on Tank and more brighter and crisp on Fred whos the smaller one and the whos more shy. Not sure yet if theres something in the sexuality too this yet! But im watching too see. Their behavior in the tank seems to be non-aggressive towards one another other then an occasional nip. They have definitely gotten bigger since iv had them. When i first brought them home id say they were just about 6' maybe kinda thin and a lil dull in color. Tank is now pushing the 8' mark and has some good girth to him/her. Fred is not far behind at 7' and nice n fat as well.
They are active during the day and not afraid of other tank mates except for the male Hecqui when theres fry in the female's shell they avoid her area. So they do know not to go to certain areas of the tank. Interaction is semi social, they come out when lights are off , but dont necessary stay together at all times.
Hope u guy enjoy the info. And yes ill try n get some more pictures!!5 gal baby hecqui grow out

So iv searched online and looked into their breeding. I really couldn't find much info in that area of their care. Im possibly thinking that they may lay the eggs in the sand bed of the lake and they eggs hatch away from the eyes of predators. Once they hatch they're on their own like most snake species ! This is not proven so dont hold me to this , just an idea.5 gal baby hecqui grow out
