I am going to use this driftwood that i am buyingg from some one is there things i am supposed to do before putting in my tank?

I usually boil a pot of water and pour it over the driftwood, just to be safe. It's unlikely anything is living in/on it, but if you are worried, you could do that.Our Fishhouse

Some aquarists like to know they are not transferring disease with driftwood and the recommendation is to boil water and douse it. Depending on your worries, the driftwood has likley been colonized by beneficial bacteria that will still likely be present (though far fewer) in the wood. As long as the original owner never had any issues or used strange medications in the tank I would simply rinse it and you should be fine.In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

worst thing driftwood ever did in my tanks was grow white fuzzy stuff on it, which went away on its own over time and was actually fairly interesting in its own right since it seemed harmless. oh, and turn the water red. purigen can clear this if you don't like it.my fish house:
2.5g- ramshorn hatchery
6g eclipse- yellow shrimp, chili rasboras, yellow apple snails
29g- geo grow-out, angels, 12"fire eel, dwarf frog, apple snails
45g- jade sleeper gobies, native killifish, feeder endlers
75g- 2 oscars, parrot, silver dollars, albino channel cat, syno euptera, bichir, baby jaguar, convicts, yabby
125g- fahaka puffer, rainbow shark
and about a dozen bettas....
