  • Curious????

I'm just curious as to how many fronts can comfortably fit in a 75 or should I move the trophs I'm getting to the 75 and put fronts in the 90?

    Curious????

As adults I would say 3 max, but most people rarely keep them that long. If your buying fry I would get 15-20 because some will die and you can sell off a few at a time as they get bigger. Plus you may decide to get a bigger tank by the time they need it.

Very few. Sometimes I forget they're very large fish once they're adults

What size are the fronts? The fronts get alot bigger than trophs but fronts grow like watching a tree grow. I would put the fronts in the 90, especially if it's a taller tank, which simulates deeper water, which fronts love. Trophs love a longer footprint in a tank. What kinda trophs you getting?

Got ya. Either way 90 will be too small for adult fronts unless you have very few (1-3?)

90 isn't terribly small for fronts IMO. I'm sure it could work with a good group of fronts.

                  Key word: Adult

90g would be fine for a colony of fry/juvie. Adults would take up way too much space, but then again, I've seen some large fish in some terribly small tanks plenty of times.

Put the fronts in the tank with the largest footprint. I would put 15-20 fry/juvies in the tank and grow them out to 3-4 inches which will take about a year. Fronts are slow growers.

If you are going to stay with your current tanks, 3 would be the max number of fronts for you. If you are going to go bigger, a 125g to 180g would be ideal. You could keep 6-10 adults with good filtration.

It's not the size, it's their age that determines when they are mature and ready to spawn. A female front will be ready to spawn in about 2 years at the earliest. Male fronts take longer to mature at about 3 1/2 to 4 years. If you buy wild-caught (wc) fronts they may be between 4 to 6 inches long before they spawn. With wc fronts you don't know the age of the fish since they were caught right out of the lake.

You can have mature females ready to breed and laying egging and with immature, infertile males in the tank. The female will either spit or swallow those unfertilized eggs.

When I bought my wc moba front colony back in 2005 they were between 4 to 6 inches long and started spawning within the first 4-6 months.

Don't have experience with little africa aquatics. Heard they were reputable. I bought my wc mobas from Tyrone at TNT Cichlids out of PA. Do a search for TNT on the web. He is a great guy. He calls me monthly to see how my wc moba colony is doing. He is a great shipper as well.

If you are thinking about getting fish shipped, don't wait too long because some of the sellers are further up north where it will be getting cold in the next few weeks. They will ship with heat packs, but if you are going to buy, buy now to avoid that.

There has been several group buys on here from LAA so I would assume they're good or at least reputable as Ron said.
