Nope. Not planted. I guessing I'm just a little different in my habits... (maybe a combination of a a little old school and the idea of running a self sustaining ecosystem in my reefs). But this tank's back is open through the canopy to the stairs - I suspect foul play. It's been running perfectly and producing fry.

I made one change - the filter body of my HOT Magmun filter. Even the charcoal i used was from an open and used box.

I had a problem with a water change about six months ago which cost me 4-5 trophs. HUGE chlorine or chloromine (SP) mix.

I'm freshwater these days because I didn't want to deal with all these issues in a rental house. Upon purchasing my home if I really need to do RO and water mixes and monitor everything (especially after today) I might just go back to salt.

I appreciate your help. Just a bit upset.

Everyone of the survivors is now completely spot free. Eye's are clearing.

I know this sounds crazy but I'd swear they were excreting "salt" due the PH change. The addition of buffer has changed the tank from death to activity since I've been posting.

If you don't mind, what are your methods of keeping nitrates at zero?

I would also like to know even though I've never tested my water.

Before we go viral - thanks Geral - my standards also keep the params around 0 - of course this might move a bit as you mentioned.

As all you smart fish-keepers know this is a cycle. With patience and testing you will learn the cycle. in this as with any instance of change I try to stop the cycle by stopping nutrients. That way I can try to ensure my water params are good before making changes. This allow me to identify the root cause of the issue.

I'm not done yet - and temp my have gotten to the tank but the PH change REALLY BOTHERS me. and that is my first choice in CSI analysis.

                        Re: help trophs in trouble

What water test kit are you using?

I find it hard to believe that any tank with an active nitrifying process has no nitrates to be found since nitrates are the end result, if not removed by water changes, plants or a denitrifying reactor/anaerobic bio filter.

I'm asking you all these questions because I would love to have zero nitrates so I could do smaller water changes.

                          seriously...

No plants. I told you I have low feeding rates. I told you I stop feeding altogether for changes....

I said it wan't always 0 and fluctuates but was today when you asked.......

Since you are not specifying nitrate or nitrite your lack of specificity isn't encouraging for this discussion to move forward in a productive fashion. And more specifically I don't think I could help you understand how to keep a near 0 nitrate aquarium...

I call BS. I know you have great tanks. I think you are playing with me.....
