Stripped my WC Black Moba Momma and Look What Came Out.....1st Time for Me.

My wc black moba momma has been holding eggs for the past 10 days. I stripped her this evening and out came 18 beautiful eggs with little wigglers on top. What was surprising was the 1/2" little fry that came out of her mouth as well. It wasn't hers from her last spawn. Those fish are over 1" now.


I have other F1 fry from another wc moba momma in a floating nursery and those fry are larger as well. I also have an escapee from that same batch and he is larger than this one.


This was the first time this has happened to me since I've had this wc moba colony. I got them in Jan of 2005.


Here's a vid of tonite's collection after stripping. I use a white plastic bowl filled with tank water to submerse the holding female.

Awesome! If I were to ever do a African tank, it would definitely have to be your moba frontosas! Fronts and bichirs... I wonder if they're compatible!

Why wouldn't it be from the last batch? It would have gotten only a fraction of the food and a fraction of the water volume to actually grow in, so it makes sense to me that it would be much smaller. Maybe you missed that one on the last strip.

Perfect size to strip(keep water very clean and no problem) 5~7 more days totally freeswimming no tumbler needed ! Good job!

Had something very similar happened to me when I had a colony of fronts back in the 80s'. I figured it was from an interim spawn a month or so back. She wasn't holding enough to notice or for the distress needed to shut more reproduction down. In my case, I stripped a little later and had ten free swimmers with just a little egg sack and two 3/4" or so.
