  • Two questions for the Tropheus experts

    Hi there all,
I haven't posted on this forum in a while. I know there are some knowledgable Tropheus keepers on here so here are my questions:

    1) At ACA in 2011 I was given 8 F1 T. moorii Kantalamba red rainbow fry. Five of them survived the trip back to Texas. They were placed alone in a 29 gallon, where they have grown out well (3.5 -4 inches) and cohabitated peacefully. I have a 55 gallon community Tang tank that I want to move the trophs to (first moving out all of the other stock. My fear is that with new digs, the 5 Trophs may turn on each other. What are the chances in your experience of this happening? Would some other fish in the tank with them make them less likely to kill each other?

    2) Can anybody give me a lead on getting some more Kantalamba rainbows? The person who gave me the fry lost
his colony in a tank crash. I have not been able to locate any more.

I would really appreciate any advice...

I don't know anyone in this area that has a Kantalamba Red Rainbow colony . As for adding your five to a larger community tank, it may work and it may not . There's no for sure answer . I suggest that you try it and just keep a close I eye on them .

The possible tank mates would include a trio of julidochromis, and 2-3 small compressiceps, in a 55 gallon with a lot of rocks.
      Thanks for the reply!

your tank mates probably won't provide enough action/distraction to make a difference. Might as wel put them in there alone. there are some P. famula chimba and bangwe floating around on here. 6-8 of them in there would do it. Or maybe the same # of dubs.

Your choice of tank mats is fine . My concern is your Trophs are getting to be at that breeding size and depending on your ratio may start to be quite a bit more aggressive . But like I stated in the previous post......you just never know. What won't work in one tank....will work in another tank . It just all depends on that specific group of Trophs.

Just on trophs.com and somebody posted there today they have Kantalamba for sale. Agree that you never know. I have a lot of stuff working well that's way off from conventional wisdom. Although, I've had a couple of experiments go south on me pretty quick too.
