Not really sure what to call this other than stupidity at its finest. I finally get all the fish into their new 90 gal home when stupidity strikes first I added way to much prime as I wasnt paying attention to instructions then to my dismay i come home to find same bottle of prime laying on its side more than half empty and all fish at the top gasping for air really not a good look so I remove half the water and and added several airstones the fish are doing much better but I lost one of the Ulwile and all of the fry that momma was holding which as it turns out was seven fry I just dont know how I could have managed to not screw the top on could completely

I wasnt aware of that either but i just over half a bottle in an eight hour period must be extremely bad for fish but two hours later and everything seems fine my big male is back to "chasing skirts"

Not sure if it says the same thing as safe, but on the safe bottle it says "do not overdose". I did, however, overdose with amquel when I thought it was needed

damn man sorry for the loss but thats what fish keeping is you win some and you lose some. But what you certainly do is learn to be super careful with everything you do.

Prime contains sodium bisulfite (aka sodium dithionite). Sodium bisulfite reacts with and removes oxygen. It also lowers pH. Two good reasons for not purposely overdosing.

For that reason it is commonly used in industrial piping/processes to remove oxygen and prevent corrosion. I am an API certified piping inspector and learned that little piece of information while studying for my certification exam.
