Thank you much for the insight. This is my first African tank so I've been a little OCD about a lot of things, gobbling up everything I can find on he Internet. I think I've read 10 pages worth of Google queries on each one of my fish, at least. I tried to put the more reddish, pointy, holey rock as a foundation for my white pieces, but I don't think it's showing up well with the lighting. What kind of light spectrum do you use? The fixtures I have are from a marine setup so that might be distorting it a bit.

That could be the case, I have seen a few folks on here using marine lighting as well. I myself use 10,000K bulbs, but mine are only T8's. I love the look of 10K on any of my tanks that are only slightly planted (as well as a 10 gallon densely planted) but I do like the look of the 6500K as well. I have seen folks have great results from adding some stunner strips.

I have used Lace rock before and I liked its darker shades and hues better myself.

I just bought a koralia 750 to replace the 425 i currently have in it. Quick question. Considering the layout of my tank (circular water flow,) what do you think is the best placement for : intake, output, and powerhead? The right side is a corner of a room. Rght now the intake is in the right corner, spray bar vertically in the left corner facing right, and powerhead front right corner facing left. It seems right now debris is just flowing around my tank since the intake doesn't get a chance at it due to the powerhead.

          Any advice would be helpful!

One of the yellower Calvus are coming out, even when I'm there!

I'm guessing the yellow/black one is male, and the white one's are female? Or are the darker colors signs of stress?

            Anyway, awesome!

So the 725 koralia and 2217 is way too much flow for a 55. Guess I'm returning it!

                  I don't think the 2217 is overkill.

                  I ran 2215's on 55's when I had them.

The 2217 is only one step up.

                    I don't think it's too much. I have a 2217 and 2213 on my 55 plus a 30 GPh hob. And it's just a shrimp tank.

Thank you kindly folks. Went on another LFS run this afternoon and picked up something labeled as Val Contortionist from City pets. added (8) Bleheri Rainbows from Fish Ranch and (2) Syn. Petricola + (1) Neolam. Tetracanthus (relatively aggressive, I might replace him sooner than later) from T&T Fish and Reef. Plug plug plug.

Total stocking right now is :

                              6 yellow Calvus
                              8 Bleheri Rainbows
                              4 Syn. Petricola
                              2 BN Plecos
                              1 Neolamp Tetracanthus

By the way, T&T has the best selection of Tangs that I've seen anywhere within the BW8 loop lately. Julie transcriptus, Cyps Blue Flash (9), Cyps leptos(3), Really nice Black Calvus, a couple of different neolamps, and all of your other regulars : Fronts, leleupis, etc. All for very reasonable prices (less than 15$), except for the Cyps. I would have gotten the Cyps but all they had were males!

Tank is really stocked right now, I couldn't help myself. Probably suffering a mini-cycle at the moment, I went ahead and dumped a big bottle of Safestart just in case. I have a picture I took this morning before adding the fish. Thanks again everyone!

Also concerning the filtration. the 2217 is good, but the koralia 750 powerhead created way too much current. The Calvus were having a hard time maintaining within their caves. I will most likely trade in the 750 for a 550, and hope that works out. a koralia 425 is in the tank right now.

the koralia powerhead doesn't do anything except move water.
