  • Our Mostly all-male Mostly Malawi Tank

Just thought I'd share my youtube channel as I've recently been recording vids of our tanks.

A peek into my addiction of freshwater fish. Started in late 2011 with a feeder fish named Barney from a friend who won "him" at a carnival. Got the speech at Petco about how big they get and how a fish bowl was inhumane and nitrogen cycle so we bought a 10 gallon and its exploded since. A few months later, we bought a 125 gallon, which is still our show tank. We have multiple tanks now and are into african cichlids from all rift lakes, mostly from Malawi but starting to look into Tanganyika and we love Victorians as well. Saltwater ? Someday... when my interest in FW wanes.

A little background, the wife and I started fishkeeping at the end of 2011. It all started with a "goldfish"/feeder fish won by a friend at a carnival and given to us. Barney didn't live very long. We learned and learned and learned and after enjoying all sorts of your typical tropical fish, we made the move to african cichlids in Sept. 2012 with the intention of an all-male show tank. Upcoming, Fossos and Borleyi !

Nice tank man. You got the lighting right to get those colors popping.

Thanks guys. Hey Sunny. =] I used to have an 72" Odyssey T5HO that I bought originally for the tank, recently went with (2) 36" TrueLumen Pro LED strips 8,000K. Lights it up nicer and brighter but could use another 2 to light up the back of the tank.

I think the Bulus are coloring up more and when I can find (and afford) females, they'll definitely look sweeter. 1 of the 4 Bulus has a much darker, different tint to his colors unlike the other 3 and he happens to be the most aggressive. When I add females, I can easily imagine that 1 Bulu becoming the maniac killer of them.
