I always liked when the fish would get stuck in the rocks when you drain the tank all the way down ok enough on the water changes topic

Another reason not to mix different variants in one tank

This I agree with completely, if not due to that reason then cause mixing them just takes away from each variant.

Yes that is one of the things i hate people that know they might have mix breeding going on and don't flush every fry that comes out of that tank

I believe that the most successful tropheus tanks are single variants. I myself seen this in all my colonies, they all breed and thrive together

Most successful for breeding and selling fry or for the fish to actually thrive?

                    both.

as well as the production rate/success

Yeah. Let me provide an example of fry producing. If I were to have two different species in the same tank and allowed for the females to spit, as opposed to having a species only tank, which would provide for a higher survival rate? I ask because I have Ujiji and Kachese in the same tank and I had two Ujiji fry in the tank. The Kachese were chasing the fry and actually attempted to eat them, but the Ujiji ignored the fry. The Kachese are bigger, but I'm wondering what is the reason behind the behavior.

                        they are two different variants...

basing it off how animals work I would think they would try and kill the opposing variant so their own would prosper.

Fish can adapt. I had some 5-6"+ fish flapping on their sides during water changes lol I think I have a video of it as well.

I used to do that when I had the Canary Cheek in the 55. Now I hate waiting so long to fill my 125 back up.

oh I guess you are right time flies when your raising trophs I guess lol but they have seriously packed some weight and size since the last time you've seen them

also another question I have when doing these huge water changes say 80%+ is it safe to do it everyday with tapwater and dechlor like prime or safe? I know most of the people here have carbon filters so it seems safer with it but I currently do not have access to one so I am stuck with tap and whenever I do water changes I put the garden hose inside the tank put enough dechlorinator to dechlorinate the entire tank and then fill is this method good enough or are there better methods as to doing this?
