Depending on the water coming out of the tap...

If you have poor water coming out the tap, doing too many water changes would be just as bad if not worse than doing too little water change.

I don't know if I trust doing that much without a carbon bottle and my Kordon's Amquel+plus.

Think about it as in the lake they dont have variants for miles and they each variant has their own space in the lake. And as ek mentioned production/ and success rates go up. This is PROVEN in my case as all my fish are healthy and breeding with single species tanks it also reduces competition.
I remember reading one of Geoff articles on 2 species tanks compared to single species, he mentioned that his single species were more successful than the two species tanks where one species will dominate the tank and stress the other species and cause it to breed less.

With two variants there will be a dominant variant.

Just like how Alphas do with Betas in every other situation, this one applies as well.

WOW! I know nothing about Tropheus. Never seen one tell a few weeks ago. I seen TangoMIke's. Very pretty fish.
After reading this post I feel like I know Just a little about Tropheus. All the info and opinions. Really great.
          But the WATER-CHANGE debate continues...

There's no debate. There's only frequent massive water changes.

ok I've been doing 50-75% water changes every 3 days and they seem to be doing fine and acting the same.
another question I have is my trophs only tend to eat spirulina veggie flakes and nls 1mm, and algae waters.
I've tried feeding dainichi, shrimp, nls 3mm and many other foods but most they don't even touch and others they chew it up and spit it out, why are they so picky? Should I starve them and let them eat other foods? I want to give them a more varied diet, its like they're little kids.

They don't need a varied diet when feeding something good like NLS.

3mm is too large for most trophs I've seen, you want them to be able to swallow the food or ingest with minimal chewing.

The dianichi I'm surprised they don't take to it, if you are feeding a good portion of NLS they should be accustomed to the pellets, just mix it and theyll take it in.

I was feeding the veggie delux small size and they say that the small is 3.5mm so maybe it's too large? They tend to chew and then spit it out, but they swarm the algae wafers. I'll try feeding the color supreme baby.

And is the Dainichi Marine alright for tropheus? I am planning on mixing the nls 1mm color supreme small and the marine fx if its ok

The baby is the one that's 2mm right?

That's what I fed, veggie dx and the veg fx I believe. But I mixed it with the NLS.

baby is 1.5mm but looks exactly the same as nls 1mm
