      One of the females has held to term once, but I was only able to save five fry when she spit. They're pretty close to being considered juvies at this point, as they're about 1" each.

        How is this true if these fish grow to over 12" in length? Tropheus and the like are considered fry at 1"

          It's an issue of perception/semantics, I guess. I couldn't say at what point it ceases to be a fry and becomes a juvenile. At what point does a person stop being a baby?
