    Anyone keeping shellies??
about 6 months ago i got a few lamprologus stappersi from a guy, and ive loved them.

They act like little bulldogs of the tropical fish world. each has it own pre selected shell and territory that they guard like it had gold stored in it. are these fish considered to be dwarf cichlids??

We have multifasciatus, but have wanted to try out some of the occies. They are a bit less communal and trickier for aggresiveness, but fun in their own way.

As to dwarf cichlids, I would consider them as such. They are Tanganyikans and all the species likely evolved from only a few so are not related to the South American dwarfs. Just convergent evolution to produce and fill niches in their enviroment.

The gold occies are nice as well, i never see any aggression outside the territorial boundries, i hope to get some breeding going on as well but have seen no mating rituals as of yet, how many fry do you get at a time sunkenmetal ??

They get more aggressive when they have fry.

My first batch of fry is about 8 total.

One thing for sure these are very fun fish which dont require huge tanks, and some of the funnest lil attitudes to watch get there "shell" on !!

From what I've seen, I say the Hecqui are the best looking of the bunch. If you ever have enough fry to sell some I would appreciate a pm.

I love our multies. Aside from my puffer, they're definitely my favorites in the house...lot of personality there.
I've seen them referred to as dwarf cichlids.

I dint have any fry at size ready to sell right now. They are raising up. I like to get them to about 1.5 inch before i sell.

All the shellies vary in attitudes and behavior. Iv noticed some more aggressive than others. And the parenting varies as well. But i will keep u in mind when they come too size for sell. Pm me in a few months and see where they are for size !!
