  • Anyone ever get bored with their cichlids?

Well everyone, my 65 has been up and going for some time now. It started out as an African oddball tank and I slowly started adding different types of cichlids. I have been looking at my tank and realizing that I got way off base with what I originally wanted this tank to be. I look at my cichlids and just honestly regret getting most of them. Has anyone else had this happen where you meant to start out with one idea but started adding cichlids and regretting it?

LOL Aint it the truth. I am seriously thinking about selling most of my cichlids just to get back to the "roots" of the tank.

Not sure what type of cichlids you have, but I think that is why certain types never appeal to me. I really enjoy my cyps, shellies, and goby cichlids. I think their social interaction is what hooked me. The bright colors without an interesting social dynamic, just gets to be a colorful perch I suppose. There are always folks on here if you are wanting to find them a home and refind the original idea behind the tank. There are always those few cichlids I eventually want to try out, but when we have the time and tank spce it will work out.

I saw someone on aquabid selling african butterfly barbs and thought they would be fun in a smaller soft water African nano biotope...

Just see if anyone is interested in the stuff you would like to let go of. You'll be far happier for it and can get back to being inspired about your tank again! Need more fun pics of all those cool oddballs you have...

Long time no talk! I am in the same boat as you! I really like little shellies and comps but the "common" cichlids are just kinda aggressive and boring to me. I do believe I will try and sell them on here. I honestly dont know the names of the ones I have, that is the problem though. I really would like to just sell them all at once and be done with it you know?

Just post up some pics and ask for a hand with identification. There are some good folks here that know their species. Malawis and Victorians are one of my weaker areas. I'm certain they can find a home and you'll be happier with the tank.

I just trade them out every month or few, honestly. I've been doing that with all my tanks. Every month or so, I trade them in (to LFS)and get new fish.
