Before. I dump it in where the hose is pointed at. I think someone once said its good for up to 30 minutes after you add it so try to start filling the tank within 30 minutes. I could be wrong on that last part though.

If he is adding water directly to the tank then he needs to treat the entire tank volume. One capful will be diluted throughout the 210 gallons so the Prime will only be working at 20% strength instead of 100%.

At half a cap of Prime you're only dechlorinating only about 12% of the new water being added. That varies depending on how close you dose the Prime to where you're filling the tank up but the Prime is going to be diluted throughout the whole tank volume.

With safe, a little more than a teaspoon will treat the entire tank. It's 1tsp per 200g. Saves big money if you're constantly doing water changes.

That's what I thought and that's how I dose. I didn't feel like getting up last night so I doublechecked the dose online and Seachem's website says:

Directions for 250 g and larger
To remove…
Chlorine: use 5 g (1 tsp.*) to each 1625 L (450 gallons*) of tap water (removes 4 ppm).
Chloramine: use 5 g (1 tsp.*) to each 1250 L (300 gallons*) of tap water (removes 4 ppm).
Ammonia: use 5 g (1 tsp.*) to each 400 L (100 gallons*) of tap water (removes 4 ppm). Do not overdose!

I checked my bottle of Safe this morning and it does say one tsp per 200g. I'm not sure what's up with their website but a little less than 1 tsp works great for my 185.

I use a half cap of prime during the 20% water changes on a 210g cichlid tank weekly they are eating like crazy. Water parameter seem to be in range. All their fins stick up and they are coloring up nicely just missing that slime coat

Wait, half a cap of Prime? That's only enough to treat about 25 gallons of water. Unless you are pretreating the water before adding it then you need to add enough Prime for the entire tank volume which would be 210 gallons or a little over 4 capfuls. I suggest switching to Safe (powdered form of Prime) which would be a less than a teaspoon for the entire tank. Save the Prime for small tanks.

If the fish are acting normally I'd say take a wait and see approach

When they used to be in the 100 gallon tank the fish looked shiny when I put my Cree led flashlight on them but now they look matte and its only on some of them not all

I can only see a slime coat on my fish when they're out of water. Fish don't look "slimy" to me when they're in the tank. I have s feeling you're worrying about a non-existent problem here.

You could try Stress Coat by API too
