  • I had the same problem in the past and I learned to not do 50-80 % WC at once.... but do 10-20% every 2-3 days.

    • Befor this the chloramine would set on the bottom. How do I know this? By testing My water. After 5 weeks ammonia would show up. You could see the silt no the bottom of the tank. Tests after 5 weeks were 0.25ppm. So I cleaned my tank every 4 weeks. but what they are putting in it now stays in the water.
I have been aging water for years with out ever having a prob. but all things change.

      • hhmm.. Sorry for this question, but wouldn't a simple RO/DI filter unit take care of the chloramine as well? I have use RO/DI units for my reef tank and have never had an issue with the water.

        • RO/DI will be my next step. The AQ+ is a easy fix. I wan't ro/di but I want the high end unit.

            • They are the same but you need catalytic carbon to remove chloramine. The high end RO/Di use catalytic carbon.

              • I think I'll start using the water from my kitchen sink from now on to have an ease of mind.

                • Most kitchen sink units are only RO and does not include DI. Check you filter to see if it includes DI.

                  • Test it. Chloramine will show up in the test as ammonia. Also watch the PH.

Absolutely right! A medium pressure flow of water is perfect. Don't turn on full blast unless you have a big carbon tank. And even with mine, I still turn on medium flow so I can get that crystal clear water.

So if you buy something like Chrishem is selling, it will pay for itself after 11 months and you can keep using it for years to come

                            • The thing about carbon bottles that a lot of people don't realize is that you have to maximize the time the water in contact with carbon. So if your using small carbon filters or cartridges and blasting the water through them to fill the tank back up in a timely manner, the carbon probably isn't doing as much as you think it is. That's the thing about the big carbon bottles, you can turn the faucet all the way up and still have enough contact time.
