QUESTION: electric blue holding

I noticed the female electric blue mouth was full and getting bigger everyday and she has stopped eating. Is she holding? How long should I wait before I try to catch and strip her for free swiming fry? Thanks

She is most likely holding and you should wait approximately 15 days before you strip . After waiting 15 days the egg sack should be completely absorbed.

What would be better: move her to a tank by herself and let her spit them out or wait 2 weeks then strip her? Thanks.

I wait about two weeks with my blue dolphin cichlids then move the females. The stress of netting them usually makes them spit on their own into the new tank or sometimes right in the net!

UPDATED: I decided to strip her yesterday at water change. Got 16 beautiful free swimming fry. Very excited.

Hope you put them in their own tank... the males will eat the babies. Best bet is a sponge filter on a 10 gallon. Keeps the fry from getting sucked into a filter.

I use Mr. Toni's system. Bought a pitcher from Walmart for 98 cents, drilled some small holes and hang on the side of the main tank. Will have to move them to the 10 gallon grow out, but I need to get my hand on a sponge filter and cycle it first.
