  • Wild thing!!!

Well I thought it is interesting to share. I have a breeding pair of Leleupi in 29 having a batch of fry. These fry already moved out of the cave to explore their territory. I have another breeding pair in the 150 community also has a batch of almost same size fry as the other one. To rescue them from becoming sushi for the community tank, I decided to move the cave with fry to the 29 hoping the parents in there will take them in. So I moved the cave with fry and slowly released them to the 29. The parents upon being disturbed hiding themselves in another cave. After release all the fry, I turned the light back on to see what happened. The new fry was kind of mixing in with the old fry. The giant male came out of hiding and immediately attacked the wandering adopted step fry. And I was wondering how the hell he can tell which one is which.

At this point, my heart stopped because I realized that I made a huge mistake. He looked so determined to seek out and kill those new fry. He made a pass and violently picking the poor fry in front of my awe, chewed them up, spitted out the sand, then came back to the cave where he and his wife were hiding. All I wanted to do was to net him out of there and choked him to death. He again came out of the cave and made another pass, eating the fry then came back to the cave. He kept doing this until no more fry was to be found. With a huge disappointment and heartbreak, I shined a flash light into the cave to find the killer.

That cave was full of the young new fry. The male didn't eat them. He collected them in his mouth to bring them back to the cave. That was awesome!!!

Long story short, the parents can't tell the difference between their kids and the fostered kids and adopted them as their own. That is for having too many fry to begin with. The fry are very small at this time, so I can't share any worthy picture yet. Hang in there Ballinalex!!!
