Treat them you would a nice Moba tank. Black background, dark substrate/rocks, actinic lighting for only the center half the tank and keep the outsides dark. When done right, you'll see nothing but bright blue faces swimming in and out of the shadow areas
Personally, the way i see it. If its a really dark fish black, deep greys and has bright highlights then blue is the way to go cause they will pop against the blue. If the fish is brighter colors , and not so dark in contrast then black is ok.
So with the buds id go blue, maybe a deeper shade. And i think they'll look good against it. Just my opinion
