    Re: 150 Gallon Tanganyikan Tank

Here is the most helpful link that I found regarding Ectodus:
    Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

That was one of the few I found as well.

There were some that were in german though which usually is more helpful.

        Problem:

One of my Ectodus developed a growth over its eye over the last few days. In addition, it, along with one of the other fish has developed white stringy poop. Any thoughts as to what this is? I am hesitant to treat something that I dont know what it is. I added salt this evening.  I'll be posting pics in a few minutes...

                  Re: 150 Gallon Tanganyikan Tank

We went over to Tim's to get a 20g tank from him (Thanks Tim!) and as we were oogling his fish, he pointed out that this one has this growth under the eye, so since we had the camera in the Jeep, I took a few shots so he could post them here.  I agree, they did turn out great...but he has really friendly fish, so it was easy.

The camera is a Nikon D40x, and I used the Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Macro lens.  The lens is used primarily for nature photography.

We didn't get any other pics, but we are more than happy to go back and take more!!

So, anyone know what that growth is?

Tim -- Btw if you are looking for a camera that is going to do the same thing there are only two camps you will fall into.
I am a Canon Fan and have for years...
I would recommend you look at the new Canon Rebel XSi or if you want to go with the last model (still considered current) the Canon Rebel XTi
Traci already recommend a great lens and I am now thinking I need to get the same one :)

                        Tim -- reading from www.fishyfarmacy.com/fish_diseases/eyes.html

Swelling and redness surround the outside of the eye
a).   Could be an injury from decor inside the tank or pond
Treat with Nitrofuracin Green to expedite healing
                        b).  Gram-negative bacterial infection
                         Treat with Gentamycin

I dont know if this helps or not ?

                              Tim,

I had 2-Ectodus with white-stringy poop that possibly started a Bloat outbreak in my 300 gallon.

I ended up loosing 3-Ectodus over the entire event.  The white stringy poops guys 2 died almost imediately and the other died after his guts came out of his body for about a week, then died.

I used Clout to treat the tank and all the Fish are 100% recoverd. It took about 7 days for that to occur.

I would get the pond version of CLout 1-tablet per 100 gallons and treat using that for a week.  Perform a 50% water change to start off, and then perform a 30% every 3rd day or so.

What food are you feeding them?
