Tim -- any other fish in the tank besides the yellow labs or are you just going for the cool effect of all yellow labs ?

Re: 150 Gallon Currently Malawi Tank

There are a few juvenile electric blue cichlids, two turquoise rainbowfish, two male brown BN plecos and I may end up putting a breeding trio of J. transcriptus in there as well is nobody wants them at the GHAC swap and sell. I had originally thought about doing solely yellow labs, but my misc. fish wound up in there too.

Finfan - I started doing species tanks in part because I got tired of trying to figure out which cichlids will work well together.  I find it interesting to see how large groups of the same species interact with each other. The is a definite hirarchy that develops with alot of cichlids.

arm, that makes complete sense (specially with limited space in aquariums, no matter how large), one thing i did not mention was your amazing rockwork - an art in itself, as everyone here, i brouse many pix of aquariums and i have to say this rockwork is definitely one of the best i have seen, its a lot of rock but clean (as in not a hodgepodge of many different rocks and random plants) and has striking features, i am seriously considering changing my 55gallon (i know 1/3 of this one's size) into a mini version of something like this, i know i want holeyrock, the question is which one species will be best for my little 55gallon, i definitely want a bright color like yellowlabs so that they pop against the background!

You already have Maingano (Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos), correct? I would think that they would look pretty interesting... as would your zebras or Demasoni

I have a yellow lab / red rubensens peacock tank.  One of these days I am going to upgrade the tank from a 75 to a 90 I am thinking.. but that is just so I can hold more yellow labs in the tank.  Right now I have 9 yellow labs and 7 Red Rubensens Peacocks in that tank.   I have at least 4 yellow labs holding and 2 Red Rubensens holding.

I would recommend if you are thinking about getting a tank where you can just mix a few this tank setup I have has turned out quite well, as there is nearly no aggression at all in that setup.
