Aragonite sub for Tanganyikan

I have a pair of daffodil in 10 gallon tank.  Sometimes they bred in small amount of fry say from 6 to 12 fry in two weeks.  Sometimes they refused to breed.  I think the hardness could be off.  If I replace the regular substract with aragonite substrate (instead of just a small bag in the filter,) will the hardness increase?  will the water be too hard?  will this pair be upset because of the change?

I think they would need a bigger tank.

Aragonite will help them since it will put parameters where they like it but regardless a 10g tank is too small for them.

I agree with EK, a 20 long would be the minimum I would use.

I can move the pair to the 50 gallon tank where I have 20 daffodil fry, 4 Otopharynx Lithobate fry and one red empress fry.  Then change replace the substrate in the 50 gallon with Floria crushed coral substrate.  If I do that, will the water be too hard for  Otopharynx Lithobate fry and red empress fry?  When perform the partial water change, will the hardness flucturate up and down and upset the fish?  Should I replace the substrate with Floria crushed coral substrate in the 125 gallon malawi tank?

I don't like crushed coral....too coarse which traps detritus causing problems....

I've bought today some aragonite and it was supposed to be - sand. But actually, it is very coarse, shell particles etc. I don't think fishes would like to chew on this...
I'll return it - and there are nice aragonite sands just - need to find them :)


10 gal tank is not really that much smaller in dimensions from 20 gallon tank. Why not going up a little bit more.
I have 20 gallon tank - Long type. Now I have a pair of Julidochromis transcriptus - spawning all the time. And - Nature's Ocean Aragonite Sand - finest possible... I didn't even know when I got it it is aragonite and it matters.
And - it does!
