I was at a BIG pet store the other day. Not a commercial chain store. They have a massive fish section. It's more of a warehouse. I was BS'ing with a cichlid lover/employee there. Good guy...
We get on the topic of tropheus and he says, "I'll be right back" in mid conversation.
So, I'm thinking, man maybe I'm weird. He comes back and says, "I talked to one of the owners and we have something to show you that you might be interested in". Takes me in the back where customers aren't allowed (till now) and there, next to the lockers where they keep their stuff is this 55 gallon tank with the biggest tropheus I have ever seen in person....or in pictures for that matter.
There were 7 MASSIVE Cherry Spots (Bulu point). So he says, "I can sell these to you for $65 a piece".
I wasn't interested in buying them. They were kicking the snot out of each other and had been there for years.
It got me thinking.
i know there is controversy over the benefits of wilds over tank bred, but it makes me wonder if it's possible to get f1 trophs this big, even if it takes 10 years. My hand on a Bible, they were 8 inches and built like tanks. Massive heads and huge mouths. I still can't believe what I saw. Truly inspirational of what a tropheus can be.
Anyone out there that's raised non-wilds to sizes like that? I mean I know Duboisi gets there, but blacks, brichardi, or reds?
