I setup a 60 gallon tank in the garage so I can remove my fish out of my 92 gallon corner tank so I can replace substrate and re do decor. I figure it will take two or three days. thank god I set it up yesterday because one of my peacocks was getting beat up so I removed him and placed him in the garage tank. When I got home the water temp. was 88 degrees. I have since placed a fan on it not sure if it will do that much though. so will my fish be ok in there for a few days at that temp? also since I have a mix of cichlids would it be wise to throw some hiding placed in there or just leave it bare so there's nothing to fight over for a few days while I redo the aqua scape?

it doesnt sound like you have much of a choice but to re-scape as fast as you can anyway. the air temp in a garage will be pretty warm. there is not much else you can do other than some cool water changes in morning/evening, a fan keeping the top open, and unplugging the heater completely. my temp in my cichlid tanks are generally around 82 or so on a normal basis and they are fine.
i would probably just let them go without decor for a day or two. try to curb any fighting that you can.

yes that is what the fan does. it doesnt cool the water, but just provides surface agitation to keep the water more oxygen rich. an airstone or two is better if you have them. you can even lower the water level a bit as well in order to get the filtered water to drop into the tank

I use wetdrys on my garage tanks for the extra aeration and I don't have to worry about the noise because its in the garage.135 gal Fahaka Puffer
