  • New African Fry Arrival

I should buy from the club auctions more often. I bought a pair of yellow labs in the Sept meeting i think, and while being bagged, the female spits out 16 fry...they are about an 3/4" - 1" long now and have been growing out in my 29g tank with the tetras

I saw two fry free swimming last night in my 75g. the female lab has been holding for a few weeks already. was able to get one free swimmer into a net breeder, the other is too freaking quick and a lot of cover.

put the female lab in the net breeder and she promptly spit out a dozen more mixed fry and still has a few more in her mouth i think

little hussie cheated on him :) half were darker color, some had stripes, etc. see what colors/patterns i get when they grow up

It's always nice when you get some extra goodies with your purchase. Hope you're ready for a fry factory! Those labs breed like there's no tomorrow

yeah i have had labs before so i know they spawn frequently, and they arent picky about a partner. but when the pair was about to go without a bid at auction, i was like eh what the heck. it was dirt cheap for two full grown adults and adds some vibrant color to the mbuna colony. the initial fry were an added bonus.

Definitely a fun and versatile fish to breed. It's hard to pass up those steals, I'm not sure if I could trust myself at the auction

There is a section in the forum labeled "Clubs and Retailers". In that header is "Southeast Texas Aquariust Clubs", or something like that. The top maybe 5 or 6 links are links for different groups/clubs where they post information on their meetings, auctions, events, etc.

I am part of the Greater Houston Aquarium Club (GHAC). This auction was more an impromptu part of a recent monthly meeting, but there are threads in that sections for events, meeting dates, etc. You can also PM mnemenoi on this site, he is one of the GHAC officers.
