  • 4x2x2 120G Tropheus Build

Picked up a 120G last Wednesday that I'll be moving my Red Bishops to. Been a busy weekend, so I thought I'd detail what all has gone into the tank.

Here is the tank when I got it

Added some (ugly) extra silicone around the bottom panels:

Rented a paver saw to cut tiles:

Cut tiles and siliconed them onto the back of the tank:

Cut, painted, and siliconed corner guards:

    Reinforced the stand a bit:

Restained a new coat of black:

Back panel tiles & front cornerguards drying:

    Tank full of tile:

I should have the tank in place on the stand later this evening, and hopefully all the fish moved over.

Knew you were up to something because you have been kinda quiet on here. Nice looking setup. Keep the updates coming.

Somebody been busy on the weekend. Looking good bro!

My question is: why moving the trophs to smaller tank? I thought longer length is preferred?

          Thanks man!

I needed to switch something up, but wanted to keep the fish and can't go any bigger tankwise. I wouldn't say length is important, more so the footprint, and I'm only losing a square foot there. The 125 is 6x1.5 (9 sq ft) and the 120 is 4x2 (8 sq ft), plus I might just go with no decor

I just got a 120 with the same dimensions and like it more than my 180...I do have more aggression problems now though going from the 6 foot tank...Going without scape should help you a lot...

I love these tanks. Not happy to hear about the aggression, but I expected some. What are you keeping these days?

Man, nice mix you've got there. I wanna do a similar community Tang tank someday, trophs & petros only!

6 footer provides 50% more room to swim compared to a 4 footer. It is a MUST for big fish like frontosa or petro, not sure on the trophs. It might work.

It will work, I don't doubt that. It's 50% more room length-wise on a 125, but also 25% less room width-wise. The downsize in footprint from the 125 to 120 is only about 11%, so only around 1/10 less ground space, but I'm also adding another 15% height-wise with the 120. Did I lose you yet? Lol

For the record, I would never try this with petros, fronts, arowanas, or any other large fish like that, simply because they need ample room to be able to turn around, which is a not a concern with trophs. I moved some WC Chaitikas from a 110 at Hung's down to a 55 at my place, and didn't have any aggression issues (no breeding either though)

Very nice clean looking tank, can't wait to see it all filled and full of them trophs! Think you might be onto something with that tile, makes water changes and detritus collection easy

I'm loving the cleanness of the tile, it's really unmatched outside of a bare tank (yuck). Should be filled tonight man! I'll have a pics/vid coming asap
