Anyone whose kept these willing to share their experiences? Pics always help. Been very intrigued by this fish lately. I've heard the males can be outrageously aggressive, but where do these guys stand next to trophs and petros? How would they get along with trophs/petros? What are some average prices for these guys? Who actually stocks them? Looking for all the info I can get, in hopes of keeping these fish in the next few months. The tank would be a 240. Thank you.

Sidenote: I know I can google these questions, but would rather have some first-hand experiences from other Houston hobbyists

Don't do it. Males are mean. And the females are grey and ugly. The males color up nicely but there will be one male and the rest females. They breed good.

Is that a typical ratio? One male and the rest females?

They are too aggressive. The dominant male will pick off all other males until he's the only one. I had 25 recently. Then I had 15 from the male killing. He was the only male. Then he started killing all of the females. Then there were two. Two days before the fire I came home and he had beat the female so bad. He picked out both of her eyes. Then he was the only one left. I did have some fry I was growing but they died in fire. One if my friends has 20-25 2-3" from this group that he is growing out. I had the male with the moops. While he wasn't overly aggressive with them, I had some breeding behavior going on. He would always stop it.

Man, that must have been tough to watch, losing them one by one like that. I think your story is enough experience for me, I'll just watch these guys online haha

How are your moops? Did they make it?

They are crazy mean...I have like 21 in my 180 at about 3.5" and they are constantly fighting...they spread out and cover the whole tank...Hopefully F1's don't turn out as mean as some of the wild caught stories I've heard from Josiah...

Unless you have a swimming pool for them, I would lean towards petros...

Man, never heard so many horror stories about a fish before. So these guys put Petros to shame or what?

What else are you keeping in your 180 with them?
