  • 670g Community... African Cichlid possibilities??

Hello All... I am pretty well started with setting up a 670g community tank. Im starting with juveniles and growing them all in the big tank so I can a) save some money and b) in the hope that they will get along fine once grown.

I'm interested in what Africans might fit in with the fish I already have:

    - Wide Bar SDs (5), 3.5"
    - Geophagus Surinamensis (4), 3"
    - Biotodoma Cupido (3), 4"
    - Pink Tail Chalceus (1), 3"
    - Flagtail, Semaprochilodus Laticeps, (1), 5"
    - Clown Loach (5), 2"
    - Bala Shark (4), 2.5"
    - Mono, Sebae, (1), 3" tall
    - Mono, Argentum (1), 2" tall

All of my current fish are pretty calm and all are getting along great. Still, I would like to add a pinch of color and variety with some African cichlids. And before anyone says it, I do know this is a strange hodgepodge of species! 😇

I have been looking at the sardine cichlids (Cyprichromis Leptosoma) and Kribs. Down at Fish Gallery, I know they have some larger Africans mixed with the same species I already have... So, any suggestions?

    thanks in advance!

Forgot to add some data that might help inform responses... It's a 10' x 3' x 3' tank. Water is 8.1 pH, 11 dKH, and tank water is pristine. Filtration is a 70g W/D plus two Eheim 2262s.

I would avoid the african's due to aggression issues you will eventually face.

Thanks Barrettsline. Was hoping the sardine cyps or Kribs might be small and peaceful enough... It's too late to take one friend's advice which was to dump a thousand Cardinal tetras in there!

Cyps are well known for being skittish and finding even the smallest area in an open lid to jump out of.

My lids are still pending... I bought the entire tank setup (with lids), but ultimately the seller couldn't find the originals, so they stepped up and are having new ones made for me. So, the top ought to be covered in the next week or so. I jumped the gun by getting the Chalceus last week. Fingers crossed he doesn't try out for his Flying Fish Wings.
