  • My New 125 Gallon African Cichlid Tank --- Link to Pics

Hi ... the long-awaited pictures are here.  I am certainly no photographer, but I think they are ok.  I'm not really sure what all the fish are, but I think I have:

    3 Cyphotilapia frontosa (Mpimbwe Blue)
    4 Cyrtocara Moorii (Blue Dolphin)
8 Scianochromis Fryeri (Electric Blue AHLI )
    5 Labidochromis Caeruleus (Yellow Lab)
    8 Pseudotropheus SP. Elongatus Chailos (4M, 4F)
    5 Synodontis multipunctatus
    2 very large plecos
    2-3 small regular plecos
    1 chocolate pleco
    1-3 bristlenose plecos
    5 unknown fry
    About 4-5 other unknown fish]

Please take a look at my pics by clicking on my 125G in the signature, and let me know if you have any suggestions.  In particular, I'm interested if you know the names for some of my "unnamed" fish, or if you have any corrections to some of the IDs I've made.

    Thanks!
    Rich

Rich, you have an artistic eye for the aquatic environment. You're tank is practical and pleasing to look at. I'm also impressed with your choice and placement of the lighting fixtures, what are you using there? Can you open the lids ok, with that little one in the middle of the tank like that? Nice fish, great looking job with the decor....as fishlady said....thanks for sharing.....

      Good Job

Thanks Loretta and Steve for the great comments!

There are two 30" lights and the one 12" light that I just added.  The 12" light has two purposes ... makes the light continuous across the tank, and it's also on a longer timer cycle than the 30" lights, coming one 1 hour prior to the 30"ers and going off 1 hour later, giving a type of dusk / dawn effect between the main lights and the moonlights.  I think it makes it easier on the fish than all the lights going off at once.  With just the 12" light on, the catfish and the plecos all start coming out, making it easier to view them.

Yes, the 12" light gets in the way some times, but it's worth it.  Now all I need is a canopy!

Maybe I'll see you two at the auction tomorrow.  Still undecided.  Need to get pics of the 90 gallon up (where all the fish that were in the 125 went to!).

        Rich

Very nice tank. Great job on the decor.
This looks like a red empress female: (I could be wrong)

The other I can't tell from the picture.

Yep, I think that she's a red empress too ... I have a couple of them, but no males ... so I picked up a male at the auction today.  Any problems just adding the male to this tank?  I read somewhere that all fish should be added to the tank at the same time.

OK, I released him and rearranged the corner that he went to so that the territory was different ... no problems so far.  Actually, all my fish seem to be fairly peaceful.  Only very short chases whenever there is one.
