I always wanted some but I think I've got my hands full with what looks to be 60 or more fry in the bri tank. LOL My 10gal would be perfect though.

I'd say yes, they breed frequently, once they start, they just don't want to stop haha, but I've kept this small colony in a 10 gal tank so I think they don't use a lot of space.

They are really good parents, they protect their fry furiously so you should be careful with the kind of fish you want to have in the same tank

I forgot if you've said what size tank you have them in. I'm having a really hard time deciding what I want to put in my 10gal.

I have 6 in a 20 gal tank but will be moving them to a 10 as soon as I get a pair to form from the 15 or so Brichardi I got from Holchak

I've kept them in a 10 gal tank, but since they are breeding I had to keep them alone without any other kind of fish there. In the past in the same 10 gal tank I tried to have them with some compressiceps with these were eating the fry, then I tried with some bichardi and the multis were giving really hard time to the bichardis by chasing them all around the places, I also tried with some julis with same results, so I decided to keep them for themselves in that 10 gal tank

I believe these guys are THE smallest cichclid in the lake. 10-15 gallon is perfect for a colony.

With the multis do you have to get a group and wait for a pair to form and then get rid of the others like you do with brichardi? It's been so long since I researched them that I don't remember.

I would keep them alone. I don't like seeing other fish chased relentlessly. I think I'll try to set my tank up today. Got notice from ebay that my lights are on their way. I've got media, decor and rocks in the 75gal that I will transfer to the 10. I've just got to make up my darn mind on what I'm putting in there. Can't wait to sit in my bedroom at night with the blue lights on the tank.

That's what I was thinking. With having to break up lines of sight with the puffers I'm concerned I'll be like Troy and never see them in the 10gal.
