  • Sadness and Confusion

....i had two chocolate cichlids that i've had for almost a year now....
one was about 6 inches and the other is about 4-5 inches....
my 6 inch baby died tonight.....it is totally confusing me as to it's demise....
it was fine this morning when i left for work....but when i went to do the weekly water change it was floating in the tank.....
it had no marks on it....no fins nipped or anything....
    it's tank mates are as follows;
    the other chocolate
    14 inch pleco
    3 angels about 4 inches
    2 yo yo loaches
    6 brichardi juvies
    2 green terrors
    one rainbow
several buffalo's the biggest is about 3 inches
    2 green sevrums
    4 tetrocephalus
they all live in a 135 gallon with a 2217 ehiem
    350 magnum
    250 powerhead
    280 emperor hob

are any of the mentioned tank mates guilty of this horrible thing....or is this just one of those unexplained instances where i loose my favorite fishie.....?????
i have no fights in there....all the fishies are sooooooooo docile....they eat out of my hand.....

it's just a sad night here i can say that much......

                Re: Sadness and Confusion

Very sorry about your loss......everything sounds to be in good order and IMO if there was something wrong in the tank those Loaches would probably have shown first distress.

I have to second the old age.....either that or some sort of internal infectiion/pathogen.

but everyone else seems to be okay so far as of this morning.....
                    the loaches are doing fine.....
i do water changes once a week on all my tanks....
he was such a big guy....and gorgeous......
you may be right...sometimes i guess those icky things just get hold of them for some unknown reason...
